Nine Croatian projects to be presented at Doclisboa's Nebulae
- The Portuguese event's industry section also features a Filmmaking Seminar, and a slate of talks, panels and events taking place both on site and online
Nebulae, Doclisboa's space for industry, will hold its third edition in a hybrid format from 21-31 October. Film professionals from all over the world will meet again in Lisbon between 21 and 25 October, during which time the on-site activities will take place. To make sure that everyone can participate, the online activities will run until the 31st.
A central part of Nebulae is the Invited Country section, where nine projects in development coming from Croatia will be presented, and they will compete for the DAE Encouragement Award and the Pitch the Doc Award. Previous editions focused on Germany and Georgia, and there are two projects representing these countries this year as well. The Invited School in the Green Years section, dedicated to student films, will be the Academy of Dramatic Arts of the University of Zagreb. Doclisboa will screen a retrospective programme of 16 films from the school’s filmography, ranging from the 1970s to the present day. Simultaneously, the academy sponsors the Green Years section's top award, offering the winner an intensive period of mentoring on its premises.
Nebulae will also feature a programme of lectures and talks, including the State of the Art event, organised in partnership with Creative Europe - MEDIA Desk Portugal, and with the participation of MEDIA Desks Croatia and Czech Republic. The topic this year is "Expanded Documentary: Alternative Circulation Strategies", and the event aims to contribute to a wider discussion about the European film market by means of speakers, discussions and group work.
Nebulae's Constellations are intended for debates on industry topics, as well as matters related to Doclisboa’s programme, consisting of a series of encounters ranging from artistic paths to specific professional issues, led by acclaimed and experienced filmmakers and professionals.
The event will also host a line-up of market experts, who will advise filmmakers with films premiering at Doclisboa on festivals and distribution strategies, including Adam Cook, Ana Belén Asfura, Christopher Small, Cíntia Gil, Joanna Solecka, Juliano Gomes, Luana Melgaço, Madeleine Molineaux, Mandy Marahimin, María Vera, Luís Fernando Moura, Marion Schmidt and Zeynep Güzel.
Finally, the four-day Filmmaking Seminar, designed in collaboration with UnionDocs (UNDO) – Center for Documentary Art to explore radical filmmaking practices and the languages being used to expand documentary film, spotlights the UNDO Fellowship 2022 fellows, with dedicated film screenings and work sessions.
