A new banking drama entitled The Invincibles is now in the works. The script for this new production, co-written by its showrunner together with Mikko Reitala (Laugh or Die), is inspired by the real-life events of the Finnish banking crisis in the early 1990s, which had long-lasting effects on the country. The story boasts both fictitious characters and real people, such as financier Christopher Wegelius (now in his nineties and here portrayed by Pekka Strang), who was then involved in the collapse of Skopbank but was finally cleared by the Finnish Supreme Court in 2000.

In detail, the series will centre on a young, idealistic economist, Salla Nurminen (played by Amanda Pilke), from the Bank Inspectorate, who vows to fight corrupt bankers. She becomes a supervisor working for Skopbank, a place where young, invincible lions can build fortunes, by speculating through a “strike and cash in” approach. Soon, Salla ends up in a cat-and-mouse game with Wegelius. Other main cast members are Hannu-Pekka Björkman (the TV series Shadow Lines) and Wanda Dubiel (There Will Be Spring [+see also:

The Invincibles is being produced by Moskito Television for Elisa Viihde, in association with Aurora Studios. Moskito Television’s head of Drama, Mari Kinnunen, serves as the project’s producer. The series has received backing from the Finnish Film Foundation, the Finnish Impact Film Fund, Nelonen Media, the Estonian Film Institute and Estonia’s Stellar Films. It is set to premiere on Finland’s Elisa Viihde/Viaplay streaming service in autumn 2023.
