, the feature-length directorial debut by actor Secun de la Rosa, the activities taking place within its industry area, MAFIZ (Malaga Festival Industry Zone), have already well and truly begun. Since 20 May, 12 films in post-production (six Spanish and six Latin American ones) have had the opportunity to look for partners, backers and collaborators in the Málaga Work in Progress sidebar, which is being held for the fourth time and will continue, online, until 11 June. The selected projects will be shown to the professionals taking part in MAFIZ and the Málaga Film Festival – including sales agents, international distributors, festival programmers, international funds and producers – in order to provide a boost for the completion of these fiction and documentary features that are at the final-cut stage, ready to enter post-production and looking to close international distribution deals.

They will all be vying for the following prizes: the Málaga Film Festival will hand out €5,000 to a Latin American project and €5,000 to a Spanish one; Aracne Digital Cinema will give a post-production and final copy award to one of the projects, valued at €20,000; Damita Joe will confer a national distribution prize upon one of them; Latam Cinema.Com will offer a page of advertising in its magazine to a project hailing from Latin America; Latido Films will give out a prize of €15,000 in the form of the pre-purchase of distribution rights; the ACORDE Musical Supervision division of Music Library &SFX will contribute a prize of €300, as well as a flat fee for production services valued at €300 for a project from Latin America, and another, identical prize for a Spanish project; Cine&Tele will grant a page of advertising in its magazine for a project hailing from Latin America; and Yagán Films will give out a sound post-production award worth €13,000.

In addition, partner festivals such as Abycine, REC Tarragona, FIDBA (Buenos Aires International Documentary Film Festival) and Sanfic Industria (Santiago International Film Festival) have pledged to select a project from Málaga WIP to enable it to take part in their future industry labs. Málaga WIP is organised by the Málaga City Council and the Málaga Film Festival, in conjunction with the ICAA, Ibermedia Programme and FIPCA (Latin American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers).
