EAVE PUENTES 2020 wraps its second workshop
- Marking another successful edition, the specialised training programme for the development of European-Latin American projects has now concluded its online version
The last session of EAVE PUENTES 2020 is being held today, after the workshop was forced to shift its activities entirely into a virtual environment owing to the pandemic (see the news). The first session, back in November, allowed participants from Europe and Latin America to meet for the first time. At that rendezvous, they discussed their projects and professional careers by sharing their experiences as film professionals. As this edition wrapped, the EAVE PUENTES 2020 participants also had a chance to meet and network with the fellow professionals attending EAVE’s Producers Workshop and PUENTES ITALIA, which were held during the same period.
The PUENTES 2020 graduates have already had a very successful year, starting with the Berlinale Co-Production Market, where Fred Burle (of One Two Films, Germany) was one of the co-producers of the Eurimages Co-production Development Award-winning project The Oblivion Theory by Annemarie Jacir (see the news). At the same market, Paraguayan producer Sebastián Peña Escobar (La Babosa Cine) received the ArteKino International Prize for the PUENTES project Who Killed Narciso? by Marcelo Martinessi. Also, Swiss producer Britta Rindelaub (Alva Film Production), who is taking part in PUENTES with the project Reinas by Klaudia Reynicke, co-produced Hive [+see also:

Film programmer Ana David has recently been appointed as a curator at a new public institution in Porto, the Batalha Film Centre, which will open next year. The rest of the projects with a European producer attached include the comedy Calma Chica by Inés Gowland, exploring the family dynamics of a conservative Argentinian family, produced by Joy Jorgensen (Killjoy Films, Germany). Also, the comedy-drama Sigmund’s Container by Juan Caunedo is being produced by Judith Weiler for German company Butterfilm. Revolving around an odyssey through time, colonisation and revolution in the remote heights of Peru, The Anatomy of the Horse by Daniel Vidal is being staged by Spanish producer Ignacio Vuelta.
As for the PUENTES 2020 projects from Latin America, the selection is also quite varied. Peruvian producer Carolina Denegri developed the animated project The Saints by Omar Rojas. Producer Mauricio Escobar, from Guatemala, brought along the period drama Beatriz, La Sin Ventura by Fernando Martínez. The Mexican coming-of-age drama The Devil Smokes (And Keeps the Burnt Matches in the Same Box), directed by Ernesto Martínez Bucio, is being produced by Carlos Hernández Vázquez. film profile]) latest film-noir project, Pobres Pibes, is being produced by Argentina’s Federico Eisbuszyc.
Regarding the PUENTES ITALIA graduates of 2020, they are: Laura Biagini (Mommotty Film), Roberta Canepa (Fedora Film), Constanza Coldagelli (Matrioska), Roberto Maria Cuello (Joker Image), Gaia Gunetti (La Sarraz Pictures), Alessandra Limentani (Rosamont), Andrea Magnani (Pilgrim), Federico Minetti (Effendemfilm), Anna Recalde Miranda (Mammut Film), Paolo Pani (ICE), Raffaella Pontarelli (Amarena Film), Gigi Roccati (Ardita Film) and Cristina Veliscig.
All of the participants’ projects, profiles and company development issues were discussed and developed through group work, plenary sessions and individual mentoring meetings. In addition, each participant was offered tailor-made curated meetings with hand-picked experts according to their needs and specific interests.
