In view of the exponential growth of VOD platforms on account of cinema closures, the gauntlet thrown down by Nexo+ is primarily linked to the diversity of the newcomer’s offering. film profile]), launched its brand-new on-demand platform Nexo +, which offers nine different categories of content: “La Grande Arte” (lit. “High Art”), or museums and exhibitions; auteur films; operas, concerts, classical music; biographies; Italian and international pop and rock concerts; documentaries on the history of the planet; classical and contemporary dance; “Current”, or Italian and international documentaries on major, topical themes such as sustainability, diversity, human rights; and, last but not least, stage events such as theatre shows, concerts, ballet shows and live performances.

Recent titles gracing the new platform’s line-up include the Oscar-nominated Macedonian documentary Honeyland [+see also:

Its aim, going forward, is to expand by acquiring rights for other territories in Europe.     

As explained by Nexo Digital’s CEO Franco di Sarro, “since 2010, we have focused on programming and content which is totally different from the usual cinema offerings. Today, we are looking to reaffirm that commitment, delivering a platform which stands out for the type of content it offers and its editorial line”. It’s an editorial selection which has been “developed with great passion, which goes beyond algorithms and rankings of most popular works”, insists Nexo+ director Guido Casali (the former programming manager and commissioning editor of Sky Arts Italia), with explicit reference to the works put forward by Netflix, which are determined by computer calculations.

The works available within each of the niche categories featured in this innovative platform will be selected by a dedicated editorial team on a month-by-month basis, based upon the preferences expressed by audiences whom the team will develop a relationship with. In addition to the categories making up the 9 Worlds, Nexo+ will provide 40 specially designed and continually updated playlists.

Furthermore, thanks to an ad hoc widget, some of these titles and playlists will be enhanced, over time, by way of a dedicated bibliography, a selection of reference music and special podcasts, in accordance with the editorial line developed by the Nexo+ team and its partners.

Indeed, some of the biggest editors, producers, writing schools and festivals are also set to collaborate with the platform, via the section intitled “Costellazioni: mappe per orientarsi nei percorsi meno battuti” (lit. Constellations: maps for navigating less trodden paths). Four Costellazioni will initially be available on Nexo+, coming courtesy of director and editor Elisabetta Sgarbi (Extraliscio - Punk da balera [+see also:

Nexo+ is likewise set to offer up various premium titles available on TVOD, as well as exclusive, live events.
