As has already been announced (see the news), the tenth edition of East Doc Platform (EDP), the largest co-production, funding and distribution platform tailor-made for Central and East European documentaries, is running entirely online this year in an extended format from 6-17 March. It is organised by the Institute of Documentary Film.

The East Doc Forum is the flagship pitching opportunity for the funding and co-production of projects in the development or early-production stage. The selected projects were announced in December, and as every year, the 12 Ex Oriente films will be pitched as well during the event. Additionally, at the East Doc Market, six Czech projects round off the selection, with five of them also forming part of the Czech Docs... Coming Soon section.

Selected projects are also eligible for the East Doc Platform Award, valued at €7,500, intended for the best projects in development and production. The winners will be picked by the jury, comprising Asta Dalman (SVT), Luisa Schwamborn (NEW DOCS) and Jane Mote (Whicker's World Foundation).

Apart from the sections dedicated to feature-length projects, the EDP is hosting the second session of East Doc Series, which focuses on enhancing international and competitive potential, offering a wide array of networking options, including pitching sessions and one-on-one meetings for the selected projects. The first edition of the programme was held during the 2020 Baltic Sea Docs (see the news). Also, the East Doc Interactive workshop has invited five interactive and immersive XR projects in development.

As for the programme of EDP, which includes a series of lectures, master classes and case studies, some of the highlights are the master class by Alexander Nanau on his Oscar-shortlisted documentary Collective [+see also:

, Anja Salomonowitz’s master class on hybrid films, and the lecture by Arash T Riahi on how to overcome big problems with small solutions. Furthermore, documentary expert Mikael Opstrup will give a lecture on pitching trailers, Fraser Bensted will focus on the creation of audiovisual marketing materials that can really engage an audience, producer Ruth Reid will present the lessons she learned while producing series for HBO, Maëlle Guenegues (CAT&Docs) will share her tips on acquisition, promotion and distribution in CEE, while the discussion panel involving Kristýna Genttnerová (Promítej i ty), Ivana Formanová (KineDok) and Maja Lindquist (Doc Lounge) will explore community cinema during the pandemic. The complete programme for accredited guests can be found here.

Some of the special guests at EDP will also be tutoring at the third session of the Ex Oriente Film workshop, which will be held during the event. The lead tutors are Mikael Opstrup, producer and consultant Iikka Vehkalahti, director and script editor Ivana Pauerová Miloševič, and director and producer Filip Remunda. The guest tutors include Romanian filmmaker Alexander Nanau, film editor Maya Daisy Hawke, trailer editor and marketing expert Fraser Bensted, producer Ruth Reid, sales agent Maëlle Guenegues, filmmaker Arash T Riahi, director, editor and scriptwriter Anja Salomonowitz, senior international programmer at Hot Docs Myrocia Watamaniuk, and head of CPH:FORUM Tereza Šimíková.
