FIPADOC transposes its programme online

- Between 18-24 January, the Biarritz-based festival will unspool online for professionals, offering up 155 documentaries, a variety of pitches and a Focus on the Visegrád Group countries

Now at its 3rd edition since homing in to focus exclusively on documentaries after 31 editions showcasing all types of audiovisual productions, FIPADOC might not be unfolding in person in Biarritz from 18 to 24 January, on account of the health crisis (the festival will unspool at a later date yet to be determined), but the team helmed by president Anne Georget and general delegate Christine Camdessus have nonetheless transposed their programme online for sector professionals. By way of the dedicated Cinando website, the latter will have access to all 155 of the documentary works populating the festival’s rich selection and hailing from 35 countries. The Industry Days event, meanwhile, is scheduled to unfold on the festival website between 18 and 22 January.

In terms of the international competition, 10 titles will be assessed by a jury including American producer Thom Powers, Danish director Eva Mulvad and her Italian counterpart Stefano Savona. Stealing focus among the feature films in contention are the European (co-)productions Radiograph of a Family [+see also:

A number of other line-ups are also on the agenda: the Musical Documentaries Competition, the Impact Competition (comprising eight films which revolve around social justice, human rights and protection of the environment), a Panorama of Francophone Creation, a European Histories/Stories line-up, the Smart Competition (VR titles, 360-degree movies, interactive documentary stories and web series), short films and Young Creation, and that’s without forgetting several extra events including the world premiere of L'Odyssée des Jeux Olympiques by French director Jean-Christophe Rosé.

Last but not least, on the subject of the online Industry Days event, in addition to thematic conferences and presentations, there will be several International Pitches sessions showcasing 24 projects (compared to last year’s 15), a Territory Focus which will pay tribute to documentary creation within the countries of the Visegrád Group (Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia) by way of a dedicated six-film line-up (over and above the 10 Visegrád works featuring in the festival’s various competitions), eight pitched projects, and a raft of professional meetings, all in partnership with Prague’s Documentary Film Institute (IDF), Hungary’s Madoke Association, the Cracow Film Foundation (KFF), and the Slovakian Association of Independent Producers based in Bratislava.
