The Ex Oriente Film workshop has announced the 12 creative documentaries, selected from among the 108 submitted, that will be participating in its 18th edition. Organised by the Institute of Documentary Film, the three-module workshop is a training programme focused on the development and funding of creative documentary films from Central and Eastern Europe that are in development or at the early production stage.

The producers and directors of the 12 selected projects will participate in the three week-long workshops set to be held over the next nine months. The first session will be held online from 22-27 June, while the second one will unspool as usual at the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival in October, and the 18th Ex Oriente Film will wrap next March at the East Doc Platform, which runs in parallel with the One World International Documentary Film Festival in Prague.

During the whole programme, the participants will receive assistance and advice from more than 30 filmmakers and experts, and the first confirmed tutors have also been announced. The lead tutors are documentary expert Mikael Opstrup, producer and consultant Iikka Vehkalahti, director and script editor Ivana Pauerová Miloševič, and director and producer Filip Remunda. Furthermore, the first guest tutors include Georgian director and producer Salomé Jashi; Scottish filmmaker Emma Davie; Slovakian documentarian Peter Kerekes; general delegate of the Venice International Film Critics’ Week, and programmer and curator for Visions du Réel, Giona A Nazzaro; and the founder and producer of Punkchart Films, Ivan Ostrochovský.
