Cinemarket offers a secure 24/7 digital film market

Berlin-based B2B trading platform Cinemarket is unveiling its 2.0 version and offering a 24/7 digital film market. As a project, it was first developed at the 2016 Berlinale Film Festival and launched its first edition during Cannes NEXT in 2018 (watch the interview). After two years of research and development, Cinemarket is ready to offer registered buyers and sellers access to award-winning films and specialised industry tools.

US entrepreneur Jordan Mattos, the co-founder and head of strategic partnerships, explains: “Cinemarket has been finessing a platform that resolves several pain points for the industry. These tools are now more relevant than ever. It is our hope that the use of Cinemarket will inspire experimentation with new models for how entertainment is distributed worldwide.”

Cinemarket is also unique in being the only European-based platform that offers a free-to-use option for professionals. Its role as a digital B2B film market is also becoming crucial, since all physical festivals and markets are either being cancelled or postponed at the moment. Regarding the services on offer, potential buyers can check on available rights, watch films, send offers, negotiate contracts and even send MGs and royalties through the platform, as it is possible to digitally store and encode contracts, licences and transactions on a transparent, shared database, safe from falsification or alteration.

Cinemarket already hosts hundreds of titles – feature-length fictions and documentaries as well as short-form works – and the expectation is that the catalogue will be bolstered with more newly finished films in need of an online space to be showcased to potential buyers. Furthermore, the platform has deals in place with EUROVOD, T-Port Media, Filmdoo, Perspective Films, the Vesoul Asian Film Festival, Filmotor and Filmatique.

Finally, the original Cinemarket team has been expanded. Lucero Garzon, co-production forum coordinator at the Biarritz Latin American Film Festival and former head of sales at Pyramide International, is joining Cinemarket as its commercial director, while Justine Powell is the chief operating officer; in the past, Powell has worked at the BBC, NBCU, Associated Press and Handelsblatt Media Group, among other companies.
