The Annecy International Animated Film Festival and its market are going online

"We are very disappointed to have to cancel the 2020 edition of the Annecy Festival (...) Common sense and the current international situation are forcing us today to act with lucidity and responsibility.” The health crisis has thus forced the team of the Annecy International Animated Film Festival to give up on organising in its city the 44th edition which was set to unfold from 15 to 20 June 2020.

The biggest world event (12,300 accredited in 2019, more than 200 films showcased in selection, and a market, the MIFA, that is continually expanding with 433 buyers, distributors and international buyers last year) for a film genre which, even more so than others, constitutes a real “family” of artists, has however not said its last word this year.

Indeed, the 2020 official selection will nevertheless be unveiled on 15 April and the festival team is preparing “a project for an online version of Annecy 2020 which would allow access to the selected works as well as to exclusive and new content, despite the circumstances.” The contents and the ways of accessing the online programme will be revealed at the end of April.

For the record, the team behind the events comprises Dominique Puthod (president of CITIA), Mickaël Marin (director) and Marcel Jean (artistic director).
