Penned by the director together with her regular writing partners Agnès de Sacy and Noémie Lvovsky, the setting for the story is an enormous, glitzy property on the Côte d'Azur, a place that seems untouched by time and tucked away from the world. Anna arrives with her daughter for a short holiday of just a few days. In the midst of her family, their friends and members of staff, Anna is forced to come to terms with her recent break-up as well as pursue the writing of her next film. Behind all the laughter, the tantrums and the secrets, their power relationships, fears and desires are all starting to seep through. Each of them plugs their ears, blocking out the noise of the world, and must find a way to get by and figure out the mysteries of their own existence.

Produced by Alexandra Henochsberg for Ad Vitam Production and Patrick Sobelman for Ex NihiloLes estivants will be co-produced by France 3 Cinéma, Italy’s Bibi Film and a private investor. Having been pre-purchased by Canal+Ciné+France Télévisions and Rai, the film is also receiving support from the CNC’s advance on receipts and the La Banque Postale Image Sofica. The seven-week shoot, which will take place in the Var department and in Paris, will wrap on 6 October. The French distribution will be handled by Ad Vitam, while Films Distribution is in charge of the international sales.
