Christos Nikou has previously worked as an assistant director on feature films, the most prominent of which was Yorgos Lanthimos Dogtooth [+see also:

, and he has also been a crew member on movies such as Richard Linklater’s Before Midnight [+see also:

 as well as on TV adverts. In 2012, he made his debut in writing and directing with his short film km, which took part in multiple international film festivals, including Rotterdam, Stockholm, Sidney and Drama. Nikou is now preparing his debut feature film, entitled Apples [+see also:

The screenplay, written by the director and Stavros Raptis, takes place in the recent past, in a world where most of the population starts to experience memory lapses. The hero, a 35-year-old man (played by Aris Servetalis, known from Lanthimos’ Alps [+see also:

, and also the lead actor in km), is admitted to hospital with total amnesia. The story will be narrated through an allegorical comedy that starts from the premise of the elements that make up a person’s memory. These elements also dictate how he or she defines him or herself and, consequently, his or her own existence.

Apples is a production by Greek company Boo Productions, has received backing from the MEDIA Development Fund and has been supported by the Greek Film Centre. According to the producer’s notes, there have been some extensive discussions with a number of international production companies with a view to forming the final co-production partnership. The film will start shooting in Greece and abroad in the next six months.
