Produced by Claudio Bonivento and Federico Carniel’s company CBFilm, Il permesso is based on a story by Giancarlo De Cataldo (the magistrate/author of Romanzo criminale [+see also:

film profile]) who wrote the screenplay together with Roberto Jannone and Claudio Amendola, and tells four true stories of prisoners, three men and one woman, of different ages and social backgrounds, who are granted 48-hour leave from prison by the supervising judge.

Four stories that intertwine and have the genuinely positive feelings of the protagonists as their common denominator. Luigi (Amendola), fifty years old, was convicted of a double homicide. He’s tired and looking for peace, and is moved to action only by the desire to give his son a different life. (Argentero), 35 years-old, is an innocent man, serving time to protect the person who is really guilty of his crime; anger leads him to seek revenge against the person who forced him into prison and away from the woman he loves. Rossana (Bellè), 25 years old, is the daughter of a diplomat. She never adapted to a life that had already been planned out for her, and her rebellion led her in the opposite direction that her family wanted for her. Finally there’s Angelo (Ferrara), 25 years old, a boy from the working-class suburbs who was convicted of robbery. In prison he studies hard and tries to build a new life for himself, motivated by the desire to win back his ex-girlfriend.

The film’s director of photography is Maurizio Calvesi (nominated this year at the Nastro d’Argento awards for Don’t Be Bad [+see also:
