), the tragicomedy is about a 22-year-old who has the mental age of a three-year-old child. When his mother dies and he is due to be sent to a psychiatric hospital, he runs away with his older brother. During this wild odyssey, the brother comes to understand that they only have one real option, and for that they need to find their father, whom they haven’t seen in 15 years.

The story of My Brother Simple is based on Marie-Aude Murail’s bestselling novel of the same name. Munich-based writer Dirk Ahner penned the script for the movie, which aims to blend emotion with hilarity. David Kross (The Reader [+see also:

For this film being staged by Letterbox Filmproduktion, Studio Hamburg’s head of production, Michael Lehmann, got C-Films Deutschland, Munich-based Amalia Film and ZDF on board as co-producers. The feature is receiving financial backing from the Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, nordmedia, FFF Bayern, the FFA and the DFFF. The shoot for My Brother Simple will take place in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony until mid-April, and it will be distributed by Universum Film in Germany.
