, their latest feature, which on Saturday (6 February) received the top prize at Sweden’s Göteborg International Film Festival: the €108,000 Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film.

“The film shows the tragic cycles of war – the winners adopt the brutal techniques of the losers. A very intense, suspenseful and beautiful film about the exploitation of children swept into war, and uncovering new facts about post-war Denmark,” said the jury, chaired by US director-composer-artist Laurie Anderson (who also showed her latest film, Heart of a Dog [+see also:

The night before (5 February), Zandvliet and Rieks had attended the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, where they collected the MovieZone Award and the Audience Award (read the news). They then continued to Copenhagen, where last night (7 February) they collected six Robert Awards from the Danish Film Academy, after having been nominated in 14 categories (read the news).

Produced by Nordisk Film Production, Land of Mine, which has so far taken 172,000 admissions since its domestic release by the company’s distribution arm, was world-premiered last year in the Toronto International Film Festival’s new auteur section, Platform; it has since screened at Tokyo and Sundance, among other gatherings.

Göteborg closed its 39th festival with a ceremony in Gothenburg’s Stora Teatern, after screening 450 films from 84 countries. The festival’s Dragon for Best Nordic Documentary (which comes complete with €10,800) went to Swedish-Polish director Jerzy Sladkowski’s Don Juan [+see also:
