Having got under way yesterday (22 October) and running until 4 November, the 39th Mostra - Sao Paulo International Film Festival will present a Nordic Showcase, an overview of contemporary film production in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

“With a selection of 60 titles, the Mostra will offer the most extensive programme of Nordic cinema ever organised in Brazil,” said the festival. “We prioritise present production, both in fiction and documentary, to introduce our audience to new directors from these five countries, which are gaining more and more prominence worldwide.”

Organised with the Danish Film Institute, the Finnish Film Foundation, the Icelandic Film Centre, the Norwegian Film Institute and the Swedish Film Institute, the Mostra has chosen titles that have recently performed well on the international festival circuit.

The selection includes Icelandic directors Grímur Hákornarson’s Rams [+see also:

, both honoured at Berlin. 

Also, Danish director Michael Noer’s Key House Mirror [+see also:

, which won a prize at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, will be screening in Sao Paulo. To celebrate the 100th birthday of Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman (1915-1982), the festival will show Gustaf Molander’s Intermezzo (1936), which led US producer David O Selznick to invite her to start her Hollywood career.
