Starring Quentin DolmaireLou Roy-Lecollin and Mathieu Amalric, the eighth fiction feature by the director revolves around Paul Dédalus, who is about to leave Tajikistan. He starts to reminisce… about his childhood in Roubaix… about his mother’s moments of madness… about the bond that kept him close to his brother Ivan, a pious and violent child… about when he was 16 years old… about his father, an inconsolable widower… about that trip he took to the USSR, when a secret assignment led him to offer his own identity to a young Russian man… about being 19 years old, about his sister Delphine, about his cousin Bob, about the evenings he spent with Pénélope, Mehdi and Kovalki, the friend who was forced to betray him… about his time studying in Paris, about his encounter with doctor Béhanzin, about his budding vocation for the field of anthropology… and above all about Esther, the love of his life, “a fanatical sweetheart”... The screenplay was written by the director himself together with Julie Peyr.

Produced by Why Not Productions on a budget of €3.94 million, My Golden Years was co-produced by France 2 Cinéma. Having been pre-purchased by Canal+, it was also backed by the CNC’s advance on receipts and by Pictanovo. Distribution in France will be handled by Le Pacte on 20 May, and international sales are managed by Wild Bunch.

For the record, Arnaud Desplechin has taken part in the Cannes competition five times (with The Sentinel in 1992, My Sex Life… or How I Got into an Argument in 1996, Esther Kahn in 2000, A Christmas Tale [+see also:
