Cineuropa partner of the New York based “Socially Relevant Film Festival”

Rated SR is a new US film festival focusing on movies with socially relevant content that reflect a particular point of view on society today. Its first edition will run on March 14-20 at the Quad Cinemas in New York.

Cineuropa accepted to be a media partner of the festival.

During the festival, 28 films (features and documentaries, but shorts as well for the out of competition section) will be screened. Twelve movies will be competing for the final prize: a week run at Quad Cinemas for free. The festival will be repeated shortly afterwards in Washington, D.C., in order to both give to filmmakers from all over the world the spotlight they deserve for their movies and the social issues they deal with, and to enhance audience awareness.

Rated SR is a festival and a film lab at the same time, with thematic panels of international professionals integrated in the programme. According to the festival’s team there is a large audience segment yet unexplored for socially relevant films. This explains the strong willingness of the festival, besides being a prestigious showcase, to become an essential venue for this style of motion pictures.

The deadline for submission is December 30. Films from all over the world can participate, provided that the screening at the festival will be a premiere. Feature and short films have to be completed after January 2011, documentaries after 2010. Scripts in development or work in progress movies are invited to participate as well, and can be presented during the film lab.
