26/09/2012 - French actress Juliette Binoche will play the lead in Norwegian director Erik Poppe's A Thousand Times Good Night, which will shoot for Norway's Paradox from October

French actress Juliette Binoche, who most recently played the lead in French director Bruno Nuytten's as-yet-unreleased Camille Claudel, will star in Norwegian director Erik Poppe's A Thousand Times Good Night (aka Grenade), inspired by his own experiences as a war photographer.

Packaged on a €5.3 million budget by Norwegian producer Finn Gjerdrum for Norway's Paradox Spillefilm, with Ireland's Newgrange Pictures Ltd and Zentropa International Sweden, Poppe's fourth feature will start principal photography on October 22. The project is supported by the Norwegian Film Institute, with further financing from Eurimages.

Poppe, who himself worked as a war photographer in the 1980s, has scripted the film with Harald Rosenløw Eeg, and Binoche, who won an Oscar for The English Patient (1997) and a nomination for Chocolat (2001), will be the film's woman photographer, Rebekka, who is torn between the job she feels is her vocation and the family she loves so much.

The first in a package of three films from the team of Poppe-Gjerdrum backed by the film institute, A Thousand Times Good Night will be shot by Norwegian cinematographer John Christian Rosenlund, mainly on locations in Dublin and Morocco, with detours to Kenya and Kabul.

Awarded by the Norwegian press association for his coverage of conflicts in Angola, Mocambique, Kampuchea and Beirut, and a graduate of the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts, Poppe most recently directed Troubled Water [+see also:
