AWARDS Austria

17 nominees for first ever Austrian Film Awards

by

Austrian cinema, which is experiencing a boom, finally has its own national awards, the equivalent of France’s Cesars and Germany’s Lolas. The Austrian Film Academy has announced the nominees in the 13 categories (three per category) for the new Austrian Film Awards, which will be presented on January 29 at the Vienna Odeon by the Academy’s co-presidents, director Barbara Albert and actor Karl Markovics.

The 17 nominees were chosen by Academy members and important industry representatives from among 41 titles (narrative films and documentaries). All Austrian in terms of their financing and cultural rootedness, they were released domestically between October 1, 2009 and November 30, 2010.
