Berlin & Beyond in San Francisco

- Goethe Institute presents 20 German-language films from Austria, Germany & Switzerland at the Castro Theatre 'til 15 Jan

The 8th edition of ”Berlin and Beyond”, the biggest review of German-language films in the United States has been organised by the the Goethe Institute and the Castro Theatre of San Francisco. It will run from 9-15 January 2003 and will open with Nowhere in Africa by Caroline Link. The film was a huge commercial and critical success on the domestic market and was nominated for a Golden Globe in the best foreign film category. The San Francisco programme includes more than 20 films from Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
Doris Dörrie will present her comedy feature Nackt [+see also:

, in the hope that it finds a US distributor. Ulrich Koehler will receive an award of the value of Dollars 5000 for his debut feature entitled Bungalow.
The Austrian contribution includes the screenings of Ulrich Seidl’s Hundstage and Blue Moon by Andrea Dusis.
The review will end with a special screening of the 1955 classic, Sissi, part of a series of films called “After the War, Before the Wall” that was organised in collaboration with New York’s Lincoln Center and which showcases German-language films made between 1945 and 1960.
