ESTRELLITA

by Metod Pevec

synopsis

After a sudden death of a violin virtuoso, his violin named Estrelita triggers a string of conflicts. The widow of the deceased violinist (Dora, 50), who faithfully supported her husband for years and made many sacrifices on behalf of his artistic career, discovers that her late husband had been cheating on her for years. To give vent to her feelings of anger, disappointment and sadness, she donates the violin to a talented violin student (Amir, 12), who comes from a poor Bosnian family. The boy takes to the instrument almost instantly. However, Dora's son Julian (23) shows interest in the violin, too - however, he wants it for the money it is worth, and he claims his hereditary right of possession. The battle for the violin begins. The conflict escalates and brings everybody involved to the brink of eruption.
