THE MISSING HALF

by Benoît Mariage

synopsis

Claire is pregnant, but the discovery that she is expecting twins is a source of great anxiety to her. Her husband Pierre, an optician, feels powerless to cope with his wife’s neurosis. She worries about the extent of her maternal feelings, and about the possibility for them as a couple to provide enough love for two children. They reach a decision to have what is crudely termed a half abortive pregnancy, a course of action which proves devastating to him.
