FLIEGENDE FISCHE

by Güzin Kar

synopsis

Fifteen-year-old Nana considers her mother Roberta the most embarrassing person in the entire universe and the most incompetent mother of all time. She deplores Roberta’s fondness for alcohol and men and takes care of her two younger siblings herself by working as a canal lock attendant in a small village on the Rhine. After the latest of Roberta’s disastrous relationships, when Child Protective Services threatens to take away the custody of her children, the family swears: No more men! It’s not only Roberta who shows a lack of resolve, however. Nana also falls in love for the first time.
