The studio will add about 500 titles to the rental library on Google Play and YouTube in the U.S. and Canada. The list will include recent features such as Captain America, Hugo, and The Adventures of Tin Tin as well as favorites from the library such as Coming to America and the Godfather. New releases will rent for $3.99 and older ones will cost $2.99.

They’ll be available for 24 hours from the time a viewing session begins. The deal means that Google has distribution arrangements with five of the six major studios, Fox is the odd one out and more than 10 others including Lionsgate, Magnolia, Starz, and Weinstein. Google has been busily building its rental business; over the last 10 months it has also introduced it in Canada, the UK, and Japan — and last week it launched in France.
