GoCritic! opens joint call for Animafest Zagreb and Fest Anča participants

GoCritic! has announced its call for participants in workshops intended for emerging film journalists and critics at the World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia, from 3-8 June, and the Fest Anča International Animation Festival and its Student Forum in Žilina, Slovakia, from 25-30 June.

It is a joint call whereby applicants can pick one of the two festivals or click the option “I am fine with either”, and if they are selected, the GoCritic! team will communicate with them and the festivals to find the best fit. The deadline for applications is 28 April.

Both workshops will be tutored by GoCritic! head of studies Vladan Petković, and the articles produced there will be published on Cineuropa and Zippy Frames.

Launched thanks to the global reputation of the filmmakers sprung from the Zagreb School of Animation, and the result of a decision made by ASIFA (the International Animated Film Association), the Zagreb Film production company and the City of Zagreb, Animafest Zagreb takes place every year in early June. With over 350 films, symposia on contemporary animation studies, presentations, exhibitions, lectures and workshops, the festival will provide a comprehensive insight into contemporary animated production and celebrate its rich tradition.

Fest Anča, meanwhile, is the only Slovak multimedia festival focused on animated film and mainly aimed at mature audiences, with a competitive line-up comprising a selection of stand-out animated films completed in the last two years. Through non-competitive thematic sections and regional focuses, Fest Anča presents artistic and production milestones in the history of animation. The festival includes an international competition of animated short films, music videos and non-competitive screening sections. Additional accompanying events include presentations, exhibitions, workshops, concerts and film screenings for children. The festival’s industry forum is targeted at film professionals with a focus on the planning, development and presentation of animated film projects.

The call for participants is here. For any questions, please contact gocritic@cineuropa.org.

The GoCritic! workshops at Animafest and Fest Anča are part of GoCritic!@AFN, a training programme for emerging European film journalists and critics, organised by AFN - Animation Festival Network in partnership with Cineuropa and Zippy Frames and co-financed by the European Union’s Creative Europe – MEDIA programme.
